On October 14th 2010, Khagendra Thapa Magar from Nepal turned 18 years old and on that day he was officially declared to be the shortest living man in the world, measuring 56 cm and weighing 5 kilos. Formerly the shortest teenager in the world, Magar took the title of shortest man from a Colombian man called Edward Nino Hernandez. Nino, aged 24, is only 68.6 cm tall and weighs 10 kg. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the previous shortest man was a Chinese man named He Pingping with the height of 72.6 cm. He Pingping died on March 13th.
Khagendra Thapa Magar, born in October 1992 in the Baglung District of Nepal, is believed to suffer from a malfunctioning pituitary gland. On his 18th birthday, Thapa was given a lot of gifts including a toy drum from his father Rup Bahadur. When he was recognized by doctors and officials from Guinness World Records as the world’s smallest living man, he excitedly jumped onto the table, and then made tea for all the members of the press. Next year, Magar will serve as goodwill ambassador when his nation celebrates Visit Nepal Year.
