Description: Wrecker or wrecking crane used for cleaning up accidents and derailments. Wrecker and crew were based at Auburn Car shop. Andy Walker was wrecker engineer and Telford was wrecking foreman. The crew assigned from car shop forces was on "call" whenever there was a collision or derailment on the Tacoma division and often were loaned out to other railroads such as Milwaukee or Great Northern to assist them with similar problems. The wrecker unit had kitchen, bunk and supply cars. The crew worked around the clock if necessary. When not being used in wrecker service, the personnel had regular railroad jobs. For example a car repairman possessing cooking skills would work as a cook when out with the wrecker, but as a mechanic during his regular duties, and so on.
